My artworks entitled ‘Epidermis Mart’ have been motivated from the image taken by thermal imaging camera. The world we see in our eyes has been overlapped with the image shown in a form of thermal imaging.

The bright and dark colors of thermal imaging shows the inner side of the object and the external appearance has been represented by the actual colors that are visible to us.
In other words, I tried to remove prejudice among people based on race and gender and focus more on the inner side of us by exploring with various forms of color palette. The virtual world simplified in ambiguous colors and forms, and the world we see through our own eyes represent the internal and the external appearances, respectively.
The world seen by thermal imaging cameras becomes absolutely simplified in ambiguous colors and forms by the heat and it does not depend on infinite information poured from the media.
In addition to this, the epidermis of lips has been used as an abstractive expression in terms of showing the inner side of us.
Thus, my work shows the world beyond race and gender and explores the inner side of us which external appearance has become vague.

나의 작업은 집문 밖으로 나가면 표피를 매매할 수 있는 "Epidermis Mart"로부터 시작된다. 즉, 외형의 이미지를 삭제한 가상세계를 표현하여 외형이 아닌 내부의 본질을 탐구한 작업이다.

2014년부터 시작한 ‘Epidermis’ series는 열화상 이미지를 활용하거나 표피의 형상을 그려 미디어의 현시대를 말하고자 한다.
'Epidermis world' 시리즈는 열화상에서 보이는 이미지에서 모티브가 된 작품이다. 실제로 우리가 눈으로 볼 수 있는 모습과 열화상에서 보이는 이미지를 중첩하여 시각화한 작품이라 할 수 있다. 이는 열화상에서 보이는 따뜻하고 차가운 색을 표현하여 내면의 색과 실제로 보여 지는 색으로 외면을 나타낸다.
다시 말해 우리가 사람을 바라보는 인종, 성별 등의 시각적인 편견을 삭제하여 내면의 본질을 묻고 외면과 함께 표현한다. 모호한 형태와 색으로만 표현된 가상의 모습과 실제 눈으로 보이는 사람의 사실적인 현실의 모습의 표현은 내면과 외면을 나타낸다. 열화상으로 보여 지는 세상은 육안으로 볼 수 있는 무한한 색에서 벗어나 단축된 색으로 구현되며, 미디어에서 나오는 무한한 정보가 아닌 생명체의 열에 의한 색과 모호한 형태로 단순화된다. 이는 가시적인 가시광선의 세상에서 벗어나 비가시적인 적외선의 세상을 단순하고 함축된 색감과 열로 표현하여 내면을 바라보고자 한다. 또한, 입술의 표피를 추상적으로 표현하는 등 실제로 볼 수 있는 외형의 빛과 실제로 볼 수 없는 내면의 빛을 통해 인간의 내면을 표현하고자 한다.
이와 같이 나의 작업은 외형이 흐려진 이미지를 탐험하여 내면을 묻고 인종, 성별 등의 구분으로부터 벗어난 세계를 표현한다.
