Painting Exhibition: We Dream to Be Able to Continue to Dream -- Soka Gakkai Study Aid Campaign--

Painting Exhibition: We Dream to Be Able to Continue to Dream -- Soka Gakkai Study Aid Campaign-- The Soka Gakkai initiated a "Study Aid Program” to support refugee children in various countries. As part of this, an exhibition of 80 paintings by refugee children. “We Dream to Be Able to Continue to Dream" was created and shown in Kobe, Japan, in 2019, depicting the dreams of these displaced children and their memories of their homelands.

In 2018, the forcibly displaced population reached a record 70.8 million--people that are forced to flee their country because of persecution, war or violence. About half of these are under the age of 18 (UNHCR).

The plight of refugees has been a core concern of the Soka Gakkai, which has conducted fundraising activities for refuges since the 1970s and provided assistance to the UNHCR and other organizations. Through his annual peace proposals, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda has, over many years, issued calls and proposals for tackling the refugee situation.

After viewing the “We Dream to Be Able to Continue to Dream" exhibition, local children wrote letters to the refugee children with messages such as, “I look forward to meeting you, and I hope we can create a peaceful world.” It is hoped that the exhibition will encourage members of the public to reflect on the plight of refugee children and work toward a better future for all.
