Coronavirus outbreak: Three months since global emergency declared, WHO to re-evaluate the situation

Coronavirus outbreak: Three months since global emergency declared, WHO to re-evaluate the situation World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that Wednesday marks three months since they declared a state of emergency amid the spread of COVID-19.

He said that members of the WHO’s emergency committee had traveled to China and met with the Chinese president and other health officials before declaring a health emergency of global concern.

The decision came when there were less than 100 cases of COVID-19 outside of China, and no deaths.

Dr. Tedros said that he will reconvene the emergency committee tomorrow to re-evaluate the situation and advise on updated recommendations.

He added that the WHO is committed to transparency and accountability, and will reconvene the emergency committee in accordance with international health regulations.

He also said that the WHO has worked hard to support countries and bring them together to save lives, and has launched a large international trial to find the most effective drug to the disease, and will continue do so.
