How Dyson engineers developed Cryptomic™ technology to take on indoor formaldehyde.

How Dyson engineers developed Cryptomic™ technology to take on indoor formaldehyde. Removing pollutant particles as small as pm 0.1 for the air inside your home has its challenges, but that’s nothing compared to removing formaldehyde.

Dr Nathan Brown, Dyson Head of Research, talks about how the discovery of Cryptomelane minerals was the breakthrough in Dyson’s research helping to create Cryptomic™ technology capable of destroying formaldehyde at a molecular level.¹

Dyson Cryptomic™ technology has a unique catalytic coating, with the same structure as the Cryptomelane minerals. Its billions of atom-sized tunnels are the optimal size and shape to trap and destroy formaldehyde, breaking it down into tiny amounts of water and CO2.
